Tutorials

For the 2010 Conference, 2 tutorials will be presented:

1 : Electrical Subsea, the new frontier?

This tutorial will describe a new territory for the electrical industry, the O&G subsea development where more and more electrical equipment are required on the sea bed. The following main issues will be presented:

  • What is the Subsea industry in the Oil & Gas business?
  • What are the ongoing development in the industry:

Subsea multiphase pumping

Subsea compression

Long subsea tie-break

  • The way forward beyond the actual developments.

2 : IEC 61850: from design to operations

This tutorial will describe an optimal process for designing, setting-up, commissioning and operating an Electrical Network Monitoring and Control System using the IEC 61850 communication technology. Focus will be put on :

  • IEC 61850 based system compared with conventional communication technology, what does it change from a design-process point of view?

  • Specification of an IEC 61850 based ENMCS:

Which architecture?

Managing multi-vendor systems?

How to integrate equipments not covered by the standard?

  • How to migrate from or extend an existing installation ?

  • Integrating multi-protocols environments.

  • Designing communication with DCS.

  • Use of SCL language and associated files for configuration and design of the system.

  • Skill management for full design process and operations.

  • Return of experience on executed projects.

PCIC Europe has signed a memorandum of understanding with IAS IEEE and as such can issue CEUs for tutorials. The IEEE has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). In obtaining this approval, the IEEE has demonstrated that it complies with the IACET Standards which are widely recognized as standards of good practice internationally. As a result of their Authorized Provider membership status, IEEE is authorized to offer IACET CEUS for its programs that qualify under the IACET Standards.
